The Challenge
Our client, a fast-growing logistics company, was in urgent need of a European Chief Operating Officer (COO) with a strong technology background to help scale their operations and integrate an unsuccessful sister company. After a failed attempt to find the right candidate through their own hiring efforts, the CEO was becoming frustrated.
The COO role was critical for ABC Inc. to move to the next step in their development as a key player in the global business and to remove some of the pressure from the CEO and enable him to focus on the future European growth. They were struggling to attract the required calibre of senior executive and had already spent significant time and resources on the search.
The Solution
Recognising they needed specialised executive search expertise, our client approached Grove House Executive Search, a leading recruitment firm known for their ability to source top talent for senior leadership roles.
The Grove House team spent time with the client assessing the client's needs and the specific requirements for the COO position as well as understanding what had gone before. Bringing their own expertise and knowledge, they developed a clear technical job description and agreed specific competencies and behaviours. Detailed briefs were created for candidates including a full background of the company and the recruitment process.
Company target lists were agreed, and the search began. Utilising their extensive network of executive-level contacts to identify and vet a pool of highly qualified candidates, Grove House Executive Search selected several appropriate candidates and put them through a robust interview process based on clearly defined technical and competency / behaviourial questions.
Detailed Saville Wave psychometrics were applied to the final six candidates with each candidate receiving full feedback. This led to four stronger candidates being presented to the client, consisting of interview notes and Saville Wave psychometric profiles along with recommendations. Each report was discussed in person with the client.
The Results
All four candidates were interviewed by the client and three continued to the final stage. The client appointed two candidates, one into the vacant COO role and the other into an MD role for another subsidiary. Grove House Executive Search, together with their HR L&D partners, went on to create development plans for both candidates to maximise their performance.
Acting quickly, but in a detailed project structure, the client was able to fill their critical COO position in a matter of weeks, versus the months they had spent unsuccessfully trying to recruit the role on their own.
Conclusion
When our client faced a roadblock in their efforts to recruit a senior COO, partnering with Grove House Executive Search proved to be the solution. Grove House's specialised expertise, extensive network, and rigorous candidate vetting process enabled them to quickly identify and present the right candidates, saving substantial time and money (around £25,000) while providing the candidates a ‘best in class’ experience.
